The Spanish Superbike Championship is halfway through and this weekend the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosted the fourth round of the season. Andotrans Team Torrentó completed the two races held at Montmeló, where the heat and difficult track conditions were the protagonists. However, the team worked hard and both Harry Khouri and Sviat Pylypenko ended up with good results on the track.
The two riders in the Supersport Next Generation category had a quiet qualifying session: P15 for Khouri and P24 for Pylypenko. The Australian gave it his all but was physically affected by a crash in the final practice session.
In Saturday’s race, despite starting from the middle of the grid, Khouri began to work his way up the field. He finished in 9th place, a creditable result considering the pain he felt in his shoulder throughout the race. Sviat Pylypenko set a good pace but unfortunately retired in 22nd place due to a technical problem.
The two riders continued to improve in Sunday’s race, putting in a good performance to finish P8 and P16 respectively. They both gained an extra position due to the disqualification of another rider. The result sees Pylypenko improve on his best result of the season and Khouri, despite not being at his best, remains among the best riders in the category.
The next round of the Spanish Superbike Championship will once again be held in Portugal, with the Estoril circuit hosting the ESBK races for the second time this year. It will take place over the weekend of 31st August and 1st September.
FERRAN TORRENTÓ
Team Manager
“It was a very hot day with the added difficulty of more difficult track conditions than usual. I’m happy because the team responded equally well and worked fantastically. Harry was hampered by the pain in his shoulder, but we appreciate his courage and effort. He fought as hard as he could, did well in both races and with the results he achieved he remains at the top of the standings. Sviat continues to grow. Let’s not forget that he’s only 15 years old and that his goal of improving is being achieved. It is a shame that he had to retire in the first race, but we are happy with his pace. As always, we would like to thank the fans and partners for their support and we are already preparing for the next race in Estoril.”
