The penultimate round of the Spanish Superbike Championship was held at the Navarra Circuit, with the Andotrans Team Torrentó showing great pace thanks to Harry Khouri. The rain was the protagonist of almost every day of the competition, although the Australian rider felt comfortable in these weather conditions.

It is a pity what happened in the first Supersport Next Generation race. Khouri was very confident on the wet track. He was third quickest in qualifying, giving him a front row start for the first time. He got off to a good start and led the race by up to 13 seconds… But that’s racing! An unfortunate crash saw him finish tenth.

Tyre management was key in Sunday’s race. The Australian made another great start from the fourth row and moved up to second in the early stages. Khouri continued to extend his lead over the chasing pack until the track began to dry out and the roles were reversed. He fought to the end and was rewarded with fifth place.

For his part, Sviat Pylypenko was 20th in qualifying due to the changing track conditions, but unfortunately the Ukrainian’s best time was no less than 110% of the pole position time, which is the benchmark to get on the grid. The stewards applied the regulations and the Ukrainian was unable to take part in the weekend’s two races.

There is only one more race weekend to go. Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit will be the final stage of the ESBK season: on 2nd and 3rd November the Andotrans Team Torrentó will take part in the final two races.

FERRAN TORRENTÓ
Team Manager

“We come back from Navarra happy, although we are aiming for even better results. When we were on the verge of our first victory with Harry Khouri, an unfortunate crash changed everything.

However, we knew that we were on the right track and that we would have another chance on Sunday. And so it happened. We were fighting for podium places all the time and finishing 5th leaves a good taste in our mouths.

It’s always a pleasure to race at this circuit. We feel very supported by all the people who come to cheer us on, as Andotrans is a local company. This is always a plus for the team and we really appreciate it. In Jerez we hope to finish the year in the best possible way.”
